Two Years ago an obscure LP caused more than a few ripples in the post-grunge pond. 'Naveed' was Canadian quartet Our Lady Peace's debut, a minor classic which had Pearl Jam fans, who'd waited to long for the low-key 'No Code', foaming at the mouth.

'Naveed' sold half-a-million copies in the US, and OLP trotted off on the road there, leaving British fans to wonder if we'd imagined the whole thing. Now, after a stint touring with Alanis Morissette, OLP are back with 'Clumsy' - on the face of it, a slightly disappointing follow-up.

Give it a few listens though, and 'Clumsy' is a definet grower. There's nothing to match the last LP's stand-out 'Julia', but opener 'Supermans Dead' is huge, frontman Raine Maida showing off his Corgan-esque vocal range, while the rollercoaster 'Automatic Flowers' is a pure college radio hit. From then, OLP let things drift: the pretentious 'Carnival' grates, and it isn't until the epic 'Car Crash' that the quartet pick things up. But the musicianship is pure quality - check out the massive 'Shaking' - and Arnold Lanni's sparkling production gives Maida full rein on his Vedder-ish intensity. You'll get to like it, but you'll like the colossal live show more.
