First, a note on the other bands... or band as the case turned out to be. Apparnetly Eve 6 decided that since there were two 3EB/OLP shows in Philly (both sold out, I might add), they were only obligated to do one. The second one. So I was deprived of the third act.

Not being a big Third Eye Blind fan I was very impressed with their live show; they used three different sets, played in a bunch of different settings, brought people up on stage, and most importantly they covered U2. :-) My impression of 3EB has gone from inane pop band with some decent guitars to poppy but quality guitar band with a hell of a lot of energy.

But on to what everyone (including me) cares about....

Set List: Automatic Flowers/The Birdman/Superman's Dead/Naveed/Car Crash /4am/Clumsy/Starseed/Eternal Life

Philadelphia crowds, especially for mainstream bands like Third Eye Blind, are notoriously rowdy and have very short attention spans from my experience anyway). Needless to say, during OLP's set there was a lot of crowd surfing, beach ball throwing, etc. A lot of people did get into Superman's Dead, though, and everybody was into Clumsy. 4am hasn't gotten any Philly airplay, so not a lot of people recognized it. (Just before he played it, Raine acknowledged somebody in the audience who said he wanted to hear "some loud sh**" and said, "OK, I'll play some loud sh**." It was mildly amusing, especially when a minute later the guy finally realized, "Hey! This isn't loud!"

The Birdman was especially good in my opinion... it's such an energetic song, and it has so many levels, it works well live. Especially because they went right into it from Automatic Flowers. It was nice to see three songs from Naveed (from what I've seen, they've mostly been playing 1 or 2) although Naveed itself had a loooooooong intro, which was really cool at first, but went just a little too long.

I realized during Eternal Life (which was also fabulous) that if you know the lyrics you make out what Raine is singing, but when he's playing a song you've never heard, you can't tell what he's saying. That might explain why the non-OLP junkies don't get that into them. But in general, the crowd seemed to enjoy the set, and there was much cheering when Stephen Jenkins mentioned them later. (A lot of it from me.)

All in all, my first time getting out to Our Lady Peace (although it's my third time having a ticket... I have lots of sob stories) was a good one. Can't wait till they're back!
