On a night so sticky you could swim through the air we headed off to see Our Lady Peace at the I.C. Light Pavillion. We were packed in, standing, waiting through Eve6. They were okay, but not who we came to hear. Then came the roadies taking what seemed like forever to set up. Finally, there they were looking and sounding fantastic! I know there must have been other real OLP fans somewhere, but no one near us knew any of the songs that were not singles - at least they knew and sang along to those. OLP kicked in with the underrated Automatic Flowers, followed by the great Superman's Dead, with Raine stopping before the "world's a subway" part, as I guess he usually does, inviting us to sing, and everyone sang along. Finally, audience enthusiasm. Next came rousing versions of Let You Down and Hello Oskar, with Raine doing some sort of dancing around thing, but it was hard for us to see because BIG guys kept pushing in front of us.

Mike, with that SHORT hair, and Duncan were grinning like they were having a great time. We sure were. Next came the fabulous Car Crash with the most amazing vocalizations. It was fantastic! Even with the pathetic sound, Raine's singing came across great! This song really shows off his vocal talents, but even in the other songs, he does things with his voice that I didn't even realize from listening to recordings. They did a radio interview here a while back where he admitted to having a lot of trouble with his voice, and I can see why. The next songs, 4AM followed by Clumsy, were well received since they have had a lot of airplay. Then came Starseed, and it ROCKED! Too bad there wasn't more from Naveed too. Finally Raine announced their last song, Jeff Buckley's Eternal Life, which was hard to hear because of the poor sound. Then they headed off stage with Duncan the last off, smiling and waving. My only complaint is that it was over way too soon. Who cared about 3eb, we'd just seen the best! This place needs to wake up and see what a great band Our Lady Peace is!
