OUR LADY SOUL?

Tuesday December 28th- I was surfing around and I found a new site for those of you interested in the industry side of things. The site provides nifty things that are supposed to be for radio programmers only. I came across the "Is Anybody Home?" US single release date (January 11). In addition to that I found a section called Industry Snaps where I learned that former wrestling sensation Sable introduced OLP on stage in New Orleans recently. Only she goofed on the name. I bet all you New Orleans OLP fans were surprised when "Our Lady Soul" took the stage! Below is a picture of the blonde bombshell backstage at the show:

More "Scaled" Information

Wednesday December 18th - The following was taken from Daily Dish -

Our Lady Peace Scaled

Our Lady Peace have finished their December 1999 U.K. arena tour with the Stereophonics and will embark on an arena tour of Canada in February 2000. With no time to mount a major U.S. tour until March, the group has decided to fill the gap between their two big tours with "Scaled," a series of intimate small venue gigs beginning January 9 in West Palm, Florida (see itinerary attached). For the groups January "Scaled" gigs, OLP has planned an innovative small scale show incorporating acoustic arrangements of the bands repertoire with set-lists selected by fans via the groups online website. Each of the four members of OLP Raine Maida (vocals), Mike Turner (guitar), Jeremy Taggart (drums), Duncan Coutts (bass) ? is creating a short film that will run during the bands performances. During the "Scaled" shows, OLP will take questions from the audience.

"We wanted to interact with our real fans and allow them to see us in a new light," said Raine Maida. "At the same time, these shows will give us the opportunity to be more up-close, intimate, and personal." Songs from the recently-released Happiness... Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch (which debuted at #1 on the groups native Canadian sales c harts, ahead of Nine Inch Nails, Chris Cornell, Tori Amos and other first week debuts), as well as the bands biggest hits and some surprising cover songs, will be featured on the OLP small club tour. Happiness... is the second Our Lady Peace album to debut at the top of the Canadian sales charts; the bands second album, Clumsy, which contained the U.S. Top 5 Modern Rock tracks "Supermans Dead" and "Clum sy," is rapidly approaching the RIAA platinum mark in the U.S. "One Man Army," the first single from Happiness... Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch, has continued OLPs success on alternative radio and went Top 10 on Billboards Modern Rock Tracks. "Is A nybody Home"," the new single from Happiness..., will be released to radio in early January.

Our Lady Peace has won critical acclaim for both the groups recordings and their dynamic live performances. Patrick Foster, writing in the Washington Post (September 30, 1999), found that "OLPs eclecticism made its set superior. And on the crowded flo or of the general admission event, (the) audience howled its approval." Ann Powers, in a three-star lead review in Rolling Stone (October 28, 1999), wrote: "Happiness... turns earnest questions into diverting mind-games. Raine Maidas lyrics can be virt uously doomy...but he swirls them around on his tongue and spits them out like tasty venom, while his band careens about like its been dipping into that old sacramental wine. Producer Arnold Lanni makes Our Lady Peaces bright sound even more acidic wit h the help of a few well-deployed synthesizers... its nice to hear a band thats willing to flirt a little with the big questions before settling down."

WHO WON THE FISH?

Saturday December 4th- The Contest Is Finally Over!!!!

Yes I thought it was going to be a permanent fixture on OLP.net as well but hey, give us some slack...we've got to conform to our educational institutions!!! :)

We would like to thank all of you who participated in the contest, we received tons of entries and I personally was amazed at the creativity of some of the entries. It has made choosing the winner a very difficult task for all three of us. So it's going to go like this: there is one winner and one runner up! The prizes are going towards the purchase of a fish, to be named after their contest entries...and if we're lucky, we'll get pictures of all the fish for our website!! The winner is getting a $20.00 gift certificate to a pet store (Note: We originally said PetSmart, but we're going to check out the area that the winner lives in so it may be a different one, a closer location) and a few other goodies (like maybe a flourcesent plant)to decorate the fishies home! The runner up gets a $10.00 gift certificate (same applies as above)!! So now the moment we've all been waiting for....

Can I get a drumroll here?
*insert drumroll sound here*

Or maybe "Waited" would be better.....
*insert sound of choice here*

The Winner IS......

Oskar The Eleventh Transparent Rubberfish
Oskar: Cool name plus an OLP song
Rubberfish: What Oskar would be if he were a fish in the song. (Rubberman, Rubberfish get it?)
Transparent: Once again, a human thing turned fishy.
Eleven: The number of songs on each OLP album, pretty important number no? -Diane

The Runner Up IS.....

Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC , or Poly for short:)..) PVC is a type of plastic, and there are "plastic people" in One Man Army, so this would be my little plastic fish:) -Danielle Anderson

Once again thank you to all the participants, and to the winners, you will be contacted by e-mail (by Sara) within a day or so (when I can get near my computer) so we can get all your details!!!

Remember...Happiness IS a Fish!!!

OLP CANOE POLL

Tuesday November 30th- Well I think that tops the list as most bizarre headline on OLP.NET However you'll see in this update that it is unusually accurate! CANOE.CA the most premier Canadian news site is holding a millenium poll to decide the most important Canadian artist of the Millenium. OLP is in the running, and have received 3% of the vote already. Just to give you an idea of how vast the field is, you should know that OLP are competing against artists such as: The Tragically Hip, Rush, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, The Gues Who, Neil Young, Sloan, Moist, Anne Murray, Alanis Morisette, Sara McLachlan and many others!

Rush is currently in the lead with 18% but there is no reason why OLP can't at least get an awesome showing from their fans, if not a victory :) You can cast your vote as many times as you want here:
