06.21.05 Columbia Records Set To Release Healthy In Paranoid Times CD, From Our Lady Peace - August 30
TORONTO, June 21 /CNW/ - Our Lady Peace is back. The Canadian rock quartet - Raine Maida (vocalist), Duncan Coutts (bass), Jeremy Taggart (drums), Steve Mazur (guitar) - is set to release their new record, Healthy In Paranoid Times on SONY BMG MUSIC (CANADA) INC./Columbia Records Tuesday, August 30.
The sixth studio album from Our Lady Peace, Healthy In Paranoid Times is the group's first new studio effort since 2002's Gravity and is the first new OLP album since the live album Live, which came out in July 2003.
"With this record, we've really taken the time with the songs that we needed," says frontman Raine Maida. "I don't think these songs sound like anyone but us."
In celebration of Healthy In Paranoid Times, Our Lady Peace are planning a series of special shows in North America, which will then be followed by a major tour. Prior to that, the band will debut their new songs July 2 at Live 8 in Toronto, one of multiple free high-profile events on both sides of the Atlantic reprising the efforts of the original Live Aid concerts. In addition, OLP have been tapped to open for the Rolling Stones, August 28 at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario and September 3 at Magnetic Hill in Moncton,
New Brunswick.
Healthy In Paranoid Times reunites Our Lady Peace with producer Bob Rock, who also worked with the group on Gravity. While the sessions were sometimes grueling, the results are breathtaking - a blend of earnest, immediate
songwriting, evocative musicianship and thought-provoking lyrics that capture the sheer joy of artistic creation.
"When you're a new band, there's a feeling you get when you play a song you just wrote," explains Maida. "Maybe it's not the best song in the world, but it touches you and connects with you. We tried to go back to that kind of feeling with every song on this album."
The album's first single, "Where Are You," is a trenchant number that features flailing guitars, full-fisted rhythms and urgent vocals about finding spirituality outside of organized religion and "Will The Future Blame Us" is
an exultant track colored with textural guitars, a shuffling beat and an anthemic refrain. Other songs on Healthy in Paranoid Times include "Walking in Circles," "Picture," "An Apology," "Wipe That Smile Off Your Face" and
"Angels/Losing/Sleep."
The album will be released as both a conventional CD and as a DualDisc.
The latter features the entire record on the audio-only side and an in-depth look into the making of Healthy In Paranoid Times - including interviews with Bob Rock and the band, as well as documentary studio footage - on the DVD side.
Certified double platinum in Canada and RIAA gold only four months after its release in June 2002, Gravity, the group's fifth studio collection, became the fastest-selling album in the OLP catalog.
Our Lady Peace's first album, Naveed, generated the hit, "Starseed," and went on to sell more than half a million copies worldwide. The band's second album, Clumsy, was released in 1997 and has sold over 2.5 million units
worldwide in addition to reaching platinum status in the U.S. and diamond certification (1 million) in Canada. In addition to the title track, Clumsy contained the modern rock hit "Superman's Dead." Happiness...Is Not A Fish
That You Can Catch was released in 1999 and featured the songs, "One Man Army" and "Is Anybody Home?." Debuting at No. 1 on Soundscan's Canadian chart the album boasted first week sales of over 40,000 copies. The album has currently
surpassed triple platinum certification in Canada. Spiritual Machines, the band's fourth record was released in the U.S. on March 13, 2001 and has surpassed double platinum certification in Canada.
Over the course of the past decade, Our Lady Peace has developed a well-deserved reputation for its riveting live shows. The Hollywood Reporter raved, "So many bands and styles have been chained by the 'alternative rock'
label that it's refreshing to find a real rock alternative. Our Lady Peace's sound and show are the perfect antidotes to today's teeny-bopper punk and aging argh-rock....the veteran Toronto quartet plays guitar rock with forward thinking and nods to the past...the no-frills show was a highlight reel of the band's five-album career. From whisper -to-scream-and -back ballads to crunching rockers, Our Lady Peace just kept giving."
