Meet Steve Mazur

Steve Mazur joined Our Lady Peace as their new guitarist in December of 2001. Since then he's been impressing concert goers in Canada and the US with his skills and rapport with the fans. Steve agreed to take some questions from fans and give you a chance to learn a bit more about him.

Jason Wison: Steve, you've said that you were a fan of OLP before you joined. What is your favorite our lady peace song prior to Gravity and why?

I was an OLP fan before I joined. I would say that my favorite OLP songs before I joined were "Are you Sad" and "One Man Army". "Are You Sad" just really kills me, every time I hear it, it's just such a great song. "One Man Army" has such killer melodies and is so powerful. It is such an original sounding rock song, too. Nothing else out there sounds like it.

Brandy (raine303): How has your life changed since you've been with Our Lady Peace?

My life since I've been with OLP has changed in a lot of great ways. Some things are pretty obvious, like being on the road and being in Toronto, and I haven't been home to LA in 3 months! But that's fine with me. I now am focusing on music, and specifically OLP, pretty much all the time, instead of working and making music with a lot of different people. My energy is more focused in one direction, a direction that I Love, so that's great, a dream come true, which I'm really grateful for. I'm also hanging out with the same group of people everyday, which is really great. Things like interviews, MMVA's, and autograph signings are new things for me as well, and I'm enjoying all of it.

Jonathon Hooper: I was just wondering if you felt it hard (or somewhat nerve-wracking) to meet up to the bands expectations after Mike left, and also if you think that you have met up to the expectations. Being a fan of OLP since Naveed, I think that you have filled his footsteps, and along with the rest of the guys, have brought the band to a new level. Great work, and I'm glad OLP got someone like you!

I didn't find it too hard to meet up to the band's expectations after Mike left, because they were looking for a certain vibe in a guitar player, and that is something you just kind of have inside of you, and I had that vibe they were looking for, so from the beginning I have felt that I just need to do what I do, because they saw what I did and it was what they wanted. I'm glad to hear that you like what I'm doing with the band!

Kourt (lordcheeseo): Were you excited when you found that you go to play with them?

I was super excited when I found out that I would get to play with them. I couldn't be in a cooler situation.

Stephanie Irwin: What is your favorite musical style?

I have no favorite musical style. I like music that has emotion and moves me in some way.

Jessica (mbanks): Is there anything safe to eat at a truck stop?

There are no guarantees at the truck stop. But there are none in life either, are there?

April (ajbellegarde): OLP has a sound all their own - very distinct. Did you have any concerns about coming in and changing things around and how that would be received by OLP fans?

I don't worry about it too much because OLP is a collaborative band and if I wanted something that was really wacked or didn't fit the vibe of what we were doing, I'm sure it would get vetoed by somebody. And you have to trust in yourself and just do your thing - if I thought too much about what OLP fans would think about what I was doing, the vibe of the moment could get totally lost, and the most important thing is to catch some of that good flow.
